The Congers Fire Department celebrates its third annual carnival and fireworks display at the Veterans Memorial Field, 64 Lake Road, Welcoming the fourth of July, to raise funds, and entertain the whole neighborhood and visitors.
In memory of George Wohl, a volunteer who died in 2003 while responding to a fire call, the Congers Fire Department hosts this annual carnival and fireworks display at the Veterans Memorial Field.
Tom Shields of Congers and assistant Coordinator of event said that Wohl loved the carnival so much, and he had been pushing the department to bring back its annual carnival. "It's respect for him. He's in our heart. We have to make sure we do the right thing in honor of him," said Shields. Since Wohl's death the volunteer department has been holding the four-day carnival every year to honor him.
The carnival started yesterday and will run through Sunday. At the beginning of the celebration the families enjoyed a "pay one price" deal that gives unlimited access to carnival rides. It is a good way to start the celebration by giving the families more things to enjoy in an instant for one good pay.
For gambling and casino fanatics, this Friday night adults are invited to a "Vegas Night at the VMA," featuring blackjack and other games from 7 to 11 pm.
According to department president Frank Voce said that it is an outpouring from the community that kept them going with this event. The event will also serve as a fundraiser for the volunteer department and with which they will sell T-shirts and Hold raffles to raise Money.
This year the carnival will also feature an activity tent for children up to 12 years old in addition to amazing rides, fun games, delicious foods, face painting and a DJ.
The closing of the event this Sunday night, the 2nd of July, will feature a night everyone will always remember. There will be a fire works display to highlight the events' end which will start at 9:45 pm. A warm welcome for the upcoming fourth of July celebration.
